365 Day Photo Challenge – Day 172

Amazing looking bird!

This awesome looking bird was just standing along the side of the road as I drove into Coronado this morning. I was wishing I had my camera in the car! Low and behold, when I returned two hours later he was still there! So as I drove back out a few minutes later for another errand, I went armed with my camera – but he saw me and flew up into this tree. Unfortunately I did not have my zoom lens with me, so carried on my way. However, when I returned home another two hours later he was still there, perched in the tree! So I walked back over with my newly changed lens and got this shot. I wanted to creep closer, but he had a pretty good eye on me! I’ve just looked up ‘birds of Panama‘ and discovered this is a ‘Southern Crested Caracaras’, also known as a type of falcon. I’m glad I didn’t get too close, as I read that they kill with their beaks!
