Mango season is over for our yard, and beginning in others. In addition to mango season, it is avocado season here in Panama! The larger avocados in the photo are ones that I purchased on the side of the highway on the way back from Penenome on Sunday. The smaller ones came from my friends Linda & Stephen, as they have an avocado tree in their back yard in San Carlos. I went to visit them today, as they just returned from a month-long visit in Ecuador. Stephen was showing me photos as I awaited Linda’s return from her morning surf. As we looked at photos, one of their dogs, Grayson, came into the room holding something that resembled a ball in his mouth – it was green. I was informed that it was indeed an avocado! As Grayson hears them drop from the tree in the yard, he picks them up and brings them in to Linda or Stephen – usually with no teeth marks whatsoever. He brought three in during my hour and a half visit! Gotta love a dog who is trained to retrieve fruit as it drops from your tree! Where was Grayson on the days I had seventy plus mangoes falling from our tree?
