This is our local ‘pina hombre’ Leo and his son Sammy, who sell fresh pineapples, papayas, plantains, avocados, limes and other various fruits from the back of their truck in front of Mail Boxes Etc. in Coronado, Panama. They can be found there approximately six days of the week – he is usually not there on Mondays, as I’m assuming this is the day he goes to buy his fruit for the week – or it is simply his one day off during the week. Their fruit is wonderful and fresh, and we especially love the pineapples. As you can see there are green or golden pineapples and he has taught me that the green ones which he sells are as sweet or sweeter than the golden ones! I had always thought that if a pineapple was green it wasn’t ripe, however with these particular pineapples that is not the case. Both Leo and Sammy speak some English and always greet me with friendly smiles, teaching me a little Spanish each time I’m there. These are the kind of people I love to give my business to!
