Today we hiked up the Indio Dormida, in English known as the Sleeping Indian Mountain. This is the view of it as we approached El Valle, Panama. It was an awesome hike!! We were soaked with sweat by the time we reached the top, but the views on the way up were worth every drop! The funny thing was, that as we neared the top of the mountain we passed two locals who were beginning their decent from their nearby casas. Each were women, carrying their little purses, wearing little rubber shoes (like slippers). They moved like gazelles down the steep rocks of the mountain as they quickly left us in their wake of dust. We watched in shock and admiration as the sweat poured from our tired bodies. Clearly this was a regular, daily occurrence for these mountain-dwellers!
This was one of the three waterfalls that we passed on our way up – and down – the mountain. Spectacular!
At the base, as well as at the top of the Indio Dormida there some amazing petroglyphs such as the one below. I would love to learn what the images represented. Very neat!
