Wow, I am at day 100 in my photo blogs! The best thing this project has done for me is to make me much more aware of my surroundings – and most especially, of the beauty all around me. Back in Canada I seemed to have a really ‘brown thumb’, meaning that most – okay I admit it – all of the plants I tried to grow typically ended up not surviving my magical touch. I either over-watered, or under-watered the poor things. Here in Panama though, much to my own amazement, I seem to actually be able to grow things! This image is of my Thai Basil that is currently growing in my garden. It has a really neat, almost spicy flavor to it, and tastes really great in pastas, on pizza, or an Insalata Caprese. There are many soft Panamanian cheeses available here that can easily replace the typical mozzarella. I’ve also just started some tomato seeds, so we’ll see how those make it. (The last ones only lived about a week, lol, so this is round two). Maybe I’ll even get to enjoy the basil with my home-grown tomatoes!
