Yesterday morning I took Jack for a walk via a ‘new’ (shorter) route, as he’s been having a hard time with my longer walks. This of course means that some days I do a double walk of 2km (Jack’s walk) + 6km (my walk). During Jack’s walk I noticed this amazing tree with these long brown pods hanging down. I went back today with my camera! When I researched it on the internet, I discovered the name of the tree is a Golden Shower Tree. Its long brown seed pods are filled with sticky pulp and can contain up to a hundred seeds in a single pod. Up close it almost looks like a combination of honey comb and tamarind. They are said to have very good medicinal qualities.
The photo below is what the pods look like hanging from the tree. Unfortunately I have missed the beautiful yellow blossoms that adorn the tree during the summer, but it is quite eye-catching nonetheless.
