Today was a fun day, as the school arranged for a group of us to go to ‘Monkey Island’. The excursion entailed a boat ride up the Panama Canal, stopping alongside the trees at Monkey Island to view and feed wild monkeys in their natural habitat, and then off to an island owned by the tour company for a picnic lunch before returning to the marina.
We could spot the movement of the monkeys from farther away, and the captain drew the boat towards that direction. As we approached it was clear that the monkeys were happy to see us. They quickly came swinging down to check us out, and see what we had to offer them. As people realized we should scrounge up some food out of our bags, the monkeys started jumping aboard. The kids were a little freaked out by this at first and many were screaming, lol. The monkeys were very kind and gentle, but rather than taking a piece of a granola bar that they were being offered, their other hand would simultaneously snatch the whole bar out of the other hand!
It was tough to choose only one photo today, but if you would like to view my other shots, I’ve made my Monkey Island album on Facebook open to the ‘Public’. Enjoy!
