Jaco and I frequently walk the beach in the morning so that he and I can both get our exercise in. The beach has been the best place for him to be able to run free. He loves to chase the birds looking for food as the tide flows in and out. Although he’s not an avid swimmer, he gets caught off-guard by the odd wave (which makes me laugh as he always seems so indignant when this happens).
This morning the tide was low, and we saw this make-shift net set up along the shore – not exactly sure what they would be catching? There were also a couple of young kids digging for clams and oysters – as is very common with the low tide.
It is dry season here in Panama now, which means many more tourists and activity along the beach – even in the morning. We no longer have the beach to ourselves in the morning :-(. I’m surprised how many tourists haul their dogs along with them on vacation! As a result, Jaco is going to have to start being on his leash much more on the beach – which makes me very sad, as I love love love to watch him running hard on the beach. He is a strong dog now, and fairly large and intimidating to people meandering on the beach as they wake up in the morning. And as I learned today he’s not so polite to tiny dogs – I thought he was going to eat one for breakfast today! Poor little doggie!! I had to run into the ocean in my jogging shoes to tear him away from the little guy. I was not overly happy as I squeaked and squished my way home from the beach in my shoes :-(.
Whoa, that is exactly what I would fear. Our Grimmy would eat a little dog. Owners not so happy
when that happens!! Salt water in your running shoes? Yikes……
Hello Denise. I am the man who found Jaco abandoned in Gamboa last august. I though had found a good home for him, that was before I met Cathy from PAL who gave it to linda while they found you. I felt nostalgic when I saw his foto from jan 5, but happy to know that he found his way after all. I had no one to take care of him. My kids loved him the first time thye met him but as well, they were not in condition a to take care of him and give the love you have given him. Thak you
Hi Milton. Thank you SO much for sending me this message – you brought tears to my eyes! We are so happy that you found Jaco and that you met Cathy and Linda. Jaco is doing so well now, has gained some necessary weight, and a very happy boy! He is well-loved and gets lots of daily exercise. Thank you so much for the gift of Jaco in our lives. Blessings!
